For many organisations Copilot has been bundled with their Microsoft Office package. Whilst it's in many ways a great product, and integrates well with Office Tools, there is a gap; Microsoft Excel
Like many LLMs and AI Tools, Copilot is very good at reading language, but for Excel when a file is loaded in it doesn't read it like a human might (looking at all the cells, their formulas and values), it just reads the values on the surface.
It means Copilot will not read your Excel formula if you upload an Excel file by itself. If you just want it to read surface data that's not a problem, if you want it to understand and tell you how a spreadsheet model might work, detect errors or critique your formulas then it is.
You need to convert the Excel into a format readable by Copilot, with its formulas and values intact.
